TRIPLE OLYMPIC gold medallist Usain Bolt ended a fantastic season of sprinting with a sizzling 100m performance at the Van Damme Memorial in Brussels, Belgium yesterday.
In two impressive performances this week, Bolt, who won the 100m, 200m and helped Jamaica to the 4x100m title - all in world record times - logged 200m and 100m victories.
Yesterday, in Brussels, Bolt ran 9.77, the joint fourth fastest time ever, to beat countryman Asafa Powell, who ran 9.83 seconds.
The winner got off to a poor start, allowing Powell to burst ahead, but he caught his rival in the final 20 metres.
It was a Jamaican sweep as Nesta Carter and Michael Frater finished third and fourth, respectively.
In Lausanne, on Tuesday, Bolt clocked 19.63 seconds after easing up before the finish in his first 200m race since the Olympics at the Athletissima Grand Prix in Switzerland.
It was the second-fastest time in the world this year - topped only by his world record of 19.30 - while winning the gold medal last month at Beijing.
He ran 30 minutes after Asafa Powell achieved the second-fastest 100m ever - 9.72 - on the same Lausanne track.
It was with these performances that Bolt edged out Powell for The Gleaner's Top Performer of the Week.
