Dancehall Channel strikes right chord with local viewers
published: Wednesday | September 10, 2008

Roxroy McLean, Gleaner Intern

Despite competition from its overseas rivals, more cable TV subscribers are requesting the local Dancehall Channel (DHC).

Denise Williams, public relations manager at local cable giant Flow said that the channel is one of the most requested in the island.

"It's one of our strongest requested channel," said Williams. "We added the channel in June and it has preceded its expectations".

The PR manager added that the channel was in the top 50 of the channels provided and has grown significantly since its introduction.

However, for Annecia Hardware, marketing manager of DHC, it is just hard work paying off. "Dancehall Channel is not just for video promotions, it's a channel that broadcasts Jamaica's true culture," she said about the company formed in 2000.

The manager also attributes the channel's success to the unparalleled service and affordable prices which they provide.

"Our services are second to none. Based on the fact that we don't advertise and are still in operation, it goes without saying that the channel is loved by our customers," she said.

Hardware added that the organisation was in expansion mode and were currently in negotiation with persons in Trinidad and Tobago who wanted the service.

"For us, in five years time we hope to be in line with BET," she said.
