A matter of honesty
published: Wednesday | September 10, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The Jamaica Public Service (JPS) has been showing an effective advertisement on television, where children obviously recognise the double standard in their parents' behaviour.

The parents teach children stealing is wrong, but are comfortable stealing electricity. The JPS' message is clear. This is just plain stealing, and there is no justifiable principle to excuse stealing. Stealing is wrong and stealing electricity is wrong. When we work the principles, the principles work.

It is also reasonable and logical to conclude that it is wrong for any utility company to take money from its customers by knowingly overcharging on their utility bills.

I am, etc.,

DAIVE FACEY
