Make a Rio Cobre dam
published: Monday | September 15, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Please ask the Golding government to do one important thing for Jamaica - lobby international lending institutions to fund to dam the Rio Cobre, thereby creating all the hydro-electric power that we need to solve our energy problems.

This one move would solve so many problems for the country. The amount of money sent overseas yearly could be diverted to health and education and national infrastructure and security.

Jobs could also be created from such a project and tourism can take off in such an area. The water can be used for irrigation and drinking purposes and most important, we wouldn't need to spend millions of dollars each year fixing the gorge.

I am, etc.,
