So Mitchie's mother, Connie (Maria Canals Barrera), decides to take her catering business to Camp Rock and Mitchie can go if she agrees to help out in the kitchen.
When Mitchie arrives at the camp, she becomes friends with Caitlyn Gellar (Alyson Stoner), Lola Scott (Aaryn Doyle), Barron James (Jordan Francis) and Sander Loyer (Roshon Fagan). She also meets the Camp Rock diva Tess Tyler (Meaghan Jette Martin), daughter of pop star T.J. Tyler (Jennifer Ricci), and her best friends Peggy Warburton (Jasmine Richards) and Ella Shang (Anna Maria Perez de Tagle).
Meanwhile, pop star Shane Gray (Joe Jonas) is dropped off at camp by his bandmates Jason (Kevin Jonas) and Nate (Nick Jonas). Because of his bad attitude, he is assigned to be in charge of dance classes for a month at Camp Rock. As the limo is driving away, Nate tells Shane that they told the press they would be recording a song with the winner of Final Jam, a concert at the end of the month in which camp members compete against each other.
Later that day, Shane is chased by obsessive fans and hides in the bushes near the hall. He hears Mitchie, thinking she is alone, singing one of her self-penned songs, This Is Me. The song reminds Shane of the music that used to inspire him and so he is determined to find the girl who was singing.
