across the nation: School mourns death of stalwart
published: Saturday | September 20, 2008

Currie

FALMOUTH, Trelawny:

The Cedric Titus High School in Trelawny has still not come to grips with the sudden death of Pabletta Currie, its vice-principal.

Although the Ministry of Education's trauma team was present when The Gleaner visited, teachers and students were crying at the loss of the foundation member of the school.

"We regret the passing of this long-standing member of the profession and supportive member of the work of the association. We wish for her family and immediate colleagues, the strength to cope," said Doran Dixon, president of the Jamaica Teachers' Association.

The incident happened just after the last shift ended on Wednesday. According to a member of staff, Currie had just left to go to a classroom when she cried out that she could not breathe before collapsing.

She was rushed to the Falmouth Hospital but is believed to have died on the way.

Currie served the institution for 30 years and was 56 years old.
