BRIDGETOWN, Barbados (CMC):

This season's regional one-day tournament will be played in either Guyana or Jamaica, the West Indies Cricket Board has indicated.

Donald Peters, the WICB's chief executive, said Thursday a final decision would be made on the host nation for the tournament, following the conclusion of negotiations with prospective sponsors.

"They (matches) will be held in one of two countries. It depends on the meeting with the sponsors, or the proposed sponsors on Friday and then (we will) determine where it is going to be held, in one of two countries. It will either be in Guyana or Jamaica."

Fixtures up

Peters said fixtures for the tournament, scheduled for November, had already been drawn up and would also be released shortly.

"They (matches) are scheduled for November. In fact today (Thursday) we sent out the preliminary schedules to the territorial boards so after they have looked at it then we can release it. But it will be in November," he said.

The tournament had been scheduled for Florida, in an unprecedented move that would have seen the region's premier one-day tournament being played on United States soil.

These plans, however, were undermined by several logistical issues, along with the passage of Hurricane Gustav, which hampered preparations in Florida.
