Black Kat, Rebel T top clash
published: Monday | September 22, 2008

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

Portmore, St Catherine:

Hundreds of patrons turned out at Ken's Wildflower parking lot for the recent Guinness Sounds of Greatness.

Soon the location was quickly transformed into a sea of gyrating bodies to the music of heavyweight sound systems Area Code 876, Rebel T, Fire Links and Black Kat.

The event saw each selector vying for sound system supremacy and the match card read as follows: Area Code 876 vs Black Kat and Fire Links vs Rebel T.

Early juggling

After the early juggling, the competition began with a tune-for-tune segment between Area Code 876 and Black Kat. The selectors on both sounds were evenly contested. However, when the 'specials' started, the more experienced Black Kat with selector Panther came out on top and took the cash prize of $70,000.

The match-up between Fire Links and Rebel T was also a ding-dong battle. However, the selector Bad Ras of Rebel T sought divine intervention and drew on several gospel songs much to the delight of the audience which sang along.

Fire Links responded with a salvo of 'specials'.

In the end, the judges, based on crowd response, declared Rebel T victorious. Rebel T also won $70,000.
