STETHS on the prowl again
published: Monday | September 22, 2008

Adrian Frater, News Editor

Western Bureau:

St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), which lit up the competition on Saturday with a big 9-0 thumping of B.B. Coke, will be among the teams defending 100 per cent win records when the 2008 ISSA/Pepsi/Digicel daCosta Cup resumes today with 10 games, all scheduled to start at 3:30 p.m.

STETHS, champions in 1974 and 1999, will play away to the exciting Lacovia High School, which lead the competitive Zone E with seven points after two wins and a draw, in a game that should generate much excitement.

In the other games in the group, Munro College (4) will play away to Maggotty (6), while B.B. Coke (0) will entertain Balaclava (0).

Dropped a point

In their game, the Hopeton Gilchrist-coached Munro, which dropped a point against Lacovia on Saturday, should be quite wary of Maggotty, who will come into the game with a perfect record, having taken full pulls from the two games they have played.

The ominous-looking eight-time champions Rusea's, with maximum six points from two wins, will be hunting the scalp of struggling Knockalva (0) as they seek to wrestle leadership of group B from brash newcomers, Hopewell High, which have seven points from three games.

"Our mission going into this game is to take maximum three points," said Anthony 'Follies' Williams, the coach of the Rusea's team. "There is no room for complacency as sometimes teams tend to relax against so-called weaker opposition to their detriment."

Two wins

The Zone H showdown between Clarendon College, which suffered a 0-1 loss to Lennon on Saturday, and Denbigh High, which have two wins from two matches (identical 2-0 margins against Claude McKay and Thompson Town), should be an intriguing contest as both teams jostle for a favourable position in the zone.

Over in Zone D, the matchup between zone leaders Marcus Garvey ((6) and third-place Brown's Town (3) should be another fiercely-contested affair, as both teams will be aiming to put daylight between themselves and teams like Cedric Titus (4) and Aabuthnott Gallimore (1), who both seem quite capable.
