Kerrion Rhoden, shift manager at Island Grill Red Hills Mall puts her customer service training to good use in assisting her customer.
On Sunday, September 28, Island Grill will host a graduation for 100 employees who have successfully completed Heart Trust NVQJ Customer Service Level one certification.
Building strong teams through training and development, is identified as one of the critical success factors in Island Grill's strategy. Recognising that without a strong internal customer base, Island Grill cannot delight its external customers, chief executive officer and managing director of Island Grill, selected the HEART Trust/NTA to spearhead the training and certification of her workers.
The programme, which targeted 240 team members, began in January 2007 as a pilot with eight restaurants in the Kingston Metropolitan region. The NVQJ certification, a commonwealth certification, is very relevant to Island Grill as there are plans for the chain to continue expansion into commonwealth markets and it is important that a consistently high standard of service is maintained throughout the expansion process.
Certification
The group of employees including line workers, supervisors and restaurant managers enthusiastically and successfully achieved certification in areas including customer service, stock control, and information technology.
To date, 100 line workers and managers have successfully completed the training and have shared numerous success stories. In the next phase, team members from Island Grill restaurants across the island and those who had not previously participated in the certification programme will be given the opportunity to do so.
The upcoming graduation serves as a celebration of their achievements and encouragement for them to continue on the path of personal and professional development.
