St Georges, Harbour View match ends in stalemate
published: Thursday | September 25, 2008

HOME TEAM St Georges played to a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Harbour View in their Digicel Premier League match at Lynch Park in Buff Bay yesterday.

St Georges had the better of play in the opening minutes with captain Danian Reid leading the attacks, supported by Omar Henderson, Daniel Shaw and Damian Harwood.

The early assault forced Harbour View back into defence and saw Lennox Wright, Lance Laing and Dicoy Williams playing their hearts out at the back.

Outstanding goalkeeping

But as the game entered the half-hour mark, Harbour View started to counterattack through Lovell Palmer, Mitchly Waul and the skillful Kavin Bryan, who made inroads in St. Georges' defence but were denied by outstanding goalkeeping from Keon Clunis.

After halftime, Harbour View made two quick changes in an attempt to strengthen their attack by bringing on Jomo Gordon for Waul and Kemeel Wolfe for Keith Kelly.

The moves almost paid off as shortly after, Jermaine Hue and Bryan combined in a move done the left flank, but the latter failed to find the back of the net.

Both teams squandered opportunities in the last five minutes.

Need to score

St Georges' coach, Geoffrey Maxwell, although disappointed with the draw at home, explained that the result was not a bad one.

"We have a good team, but the guys need to score goals, especially when there is an opportunity," Maxwell said.

Meanwhile, Waldemar de Oliveira, coach of Harbour View, said both teams played quality football.

"We played good football but we should have scored from a couple of chances earlier in the game,"de Oliveira said.
