Waterhouse too strong for Rivoli
published: Thursday | September 25, 2008

A 35TH-MINUTE goal by Jermaine Anderson carried Waterhouse to a 1-0 victory over Rivoli in the Digicel Premier League at the Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.

The match, which was played in wet conditions, saw both teams play competitive football until the 35th minute when Anderson rose high above his marker to head home a well-taken corner from Mark Miller. The half ended 1-0.

Sound keeping

Upon resumption, both teams stepped up their game, with Rivoli coming close to scoring through Fidel Anderson, Devon Hodges and Mark Miller.

However, sound keeping by Richard McCallum prevented any change in the score. Referee Lewin Purser had a tough game as there were several rough tackles, especially on Waterhouse's Jermaine Anderson.

Better prepared

It was clear to all, however, that the Waterhouse aggregation was more fit and ready for the occasion than their less-celebrated counterparts. Despite several substitutions from both teams, the score did not change.

Anthony Thomas, coach of Rivoli, said his team would have to come better prepared if it wanted to be consistent.

Waterhouse coach Wayne Fairclough said, "Despite a good showing from Rivoli, my team was simply the better one on the day and that's why we won."
