THE EDITOR, Sir:
CONGRATULATIONS TO Mrs Simpson Miller on her victory in the People's National Party presidential elections. She should not forget, however, that 45 per cent of the delegates did not vote for her. And it is not because we don't love her, but some of the 45 per cent are of the view that her management potential is suspect.
I recall the Trafigura matter. She allowed the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) to clobber her all over and take the election from her. They made a political contribution to the party and, instead of accepting it with thanks, they forced her to return it. Those funds should have been placed in the constituency fund to help small business, but alas.
Regulate contributions
On the same matter of contri-butions, the JLP collected substantial contributions from big companies. Mrs Simpson Miller should insist that they return those contributions so the investors can benefit. I don't see her doing that. On the matter of the light bulbs, there is the natural law that the old protect the little ones. In the case of young Kern Spencer, he was left on his own, unsupervised.
I would suggest that the leadership race be determined every four or five years so as to avoid the acrimonious mud-slinging that takes place when challenges are made in midstream.
I am, etc.,
