Real Mona captured their third consecutive hold on the Kiwanis Club of Liguanea/Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Under-13 title, following an exciting 2-1 victory over Harbour View in the final on Saturday at the Constant Spring field.
In the process, Real Mona ended the season as the only unbeaten team in the competition and Peter Moses, their coach, attributed hard work and dedication for their success.
"This is very pleasing because in earlier seasons we went to the finals three times and we lost all three, so winning three consecutively is really a redeeming factor for the club," said Moses.
"They may not be the most talented bunch of players, but they have a lot of heart and they never give up," he noted.
"I must congratulate Harbour View because they are a quality club and we're pleased to play against them in the finals," added Moses.
Tough loss
Sydney Davis, coach of Harbour View, said: "This is a very tough loss for us because we have come very far and hoped that we could have taken the trophy from the defending champions.
"I think that it was a good game by both teams ... we fought right to the end," Davis added.
Gedise Mirridy gave Real Mona the lead in the 15th minute with a spectacular 20-yard shot which went like a rocket past goalkeeper Justin Hall, well beaten at his near post.
Real Mona continued to take advantage of a very weak Harbour View defence and were rewarded again in the 22nd minute when Matthew Simon fired home a powerful shot from point-blank range past Hall.
Real Mona led 2-0 at half-time. Harbour View's Martin Davis looked set to pull one back for his team, five minutes into the second half, but with goalkeeper Shaquille Gordon at his mercy, his shot went wide of the target.
Carnell McKen gave Harbour View a glimmer of hope six minutes from time when he headed home a corner kick taken by Jaheel Hyde.
Harbour View's substitute Rafiel Coleman came close to equalising in the dying moments, but his shot from close range went high over the bar.
