Delroy Wilson - File

Claim to fame: One of Jamaica's first child pop stars; recorded first song for producer Clement Dodd when he was 13 years old. Had ska hits with songs like I Shall Not Remove and Prince Pharaoh as a teenager.

Wilson was also successful as a rocksteady and reggae act. Dancing Mood, I'm Not a King, Superstar and Conquer Me are some of his rocksteady hits. Better Must Come, Cool Operator and It's a Shame are three of his reggae hits.

Better Must Come, produced by Bunny Lee, was used as the People's National Party's theme song for the 1972 general election.

It's a Shame, a cover of The Spinners song, was the first hit song for the new Channel One studio in 1972.

Several of Wilson's songs (including Dancing Mood) were originally done by American rhythm and blues group, The Tams.

Singers Errol Dunkley and Wayne Wonder (alongside Buju Banton) scored with covers of Superstar.

Singer Sanchez recorded a version of I'm Not a King.

Delroy Wilson died from cirrhosis of the liver on March 6, 1995. He was 46 years old.
