NEWLY APPOINTED Opposition Spokesman on Education Basil Waite is warning that the People's National Party (PNP) will not be silent if the Government articulates bad educational policies.
"I believe that there needs to be bipartisan support for education, but I will not sacrifice constructive criticism in the name of bipartisan support," Waite told The Gleaner yesterday, shortly after being named by Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller to her shadow Cabinet.
Hope to pave way
The first-time senator said education was a very important area of national development, and that he hoped to lead the formulation of policies within the PNP from which the country can benefit.
Waite is among seven new-comers named by Simpson Miller to the Opposition's council of spokespersons.
Senator Sandrea Falconer has been assigned the portfolio of gender and religious affairs; East Central St Catherine Member of Parliament (MP) Natalie Neita-Headley takes up the job as spokesperson on the public service and Senator Mark Golding has been assigned industry and commerce.
South East St Catherine MP Colin Fagan has been assigned local government; West Hanover MP Ian Hayles takes on investment and development, while South West Clarendon MP Noel Arscott has been named as spokesperson on environment, science and technology.
