His dominance in the Rotax Junior Class has sent a clear message that 15-year-old Justin Wong will be going all out to win the 2008 title.

At an earlier meet, Wong wrapped up a hat-trick of wins. He followed up that success by registering a double in the Rotax class.

"He wants to win the champion-ship and he is going to do well. If he wins, then this would be his biggest achievement since he got hooked to the sport two years ago," his driving coach, Wayne Leahoung, told The Gleaner yesterday.

A student of Hillel Academy, Wong has been described by his coach as a fantastic karter. Although he is behind on points, the teenager is challenging Philip Myers for the title.

"This class has been very competitive. The showdown is between Myers, Wong and Matthew Williams. But Myers and Wong have been doing good times on the track. I cannot predict a winner, because it is going be very close," said Martin Anderson, one of the senior go karters at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.

Tension

Myers leads with 1,134, followed by Wong 1,085 and Williams, 1,079.

With two meets remaining before the respective champions are named, the tension is expected to be heightened when the karters renew rivalry at the next meet, which is scheduled for Sunday.

Myers is the leading contender for the 2008 Driver of the Year title. He has been scoring vital points to maintain his advantage. If successful, he will walk away with the Abe Ziadie Memorial Trophy.

Sunday's meet is expected to be filled with non-stop action, as most of the classes will be closely contested.

The drivers to look out for are from the Jackson team, Joel, Sean and Justine, as well as Peter Rae, Dane Lawson, Colin Daley Jnr., Jonathan Law, Thomas Issa, Chad and Ornealla Leahoung.
