The Editor, Sir:
This letter is reference to an article which was published on October 6 where recommendations were made for the construction of an athletic museum.
I must commend the individual(s) for coming up with this brilliant idea. As we all know, Jamaicans have established a reputation in the world and is recognised for its outstanding accomplishments in sports as well as our personal and professional contributions.
Long overdue
In my opinion this was long overdue and I am confident Jamaicans living overseas will support me on this as well. This landmark would house some of our greatest performers like Herb McKenley, Marlene Ottey, Donald Quarrie and other great athletes of yesterday and today. Who knows maybe this element will shift people's focus from committing crimes and place more focus on our greatest achievements and accomplishments in the world of sports.
This establishment would also be a legacy for the younger generation and will help them indentify who they are as a people and our position in the world of sports. This will also prompt the expectation for them to maintain our status, which requires hard work and dedication. Hopefully this establishment will also inspire the younger generations to view our athletes as role models and icons; allowing them to stay focused and reap all the rewards that come with it.
I am, etc.,
