Sushi is no new concept to Jamaica, and patrons of East Japanese Restaurant are showing that they can't get enough.

The restaurant has extended its opening hours and days as of this week. They move from an opening hour of noon to 11:30 a.m. and close at 10 p.m., every day.

"We wanted to make our restaurant more convenient to customers," said Ryohei Kikuchi, general manager, who further explained that customers would begin lining up before noon to get inside, so they adjusted their times.

New York-Style cuisine

For this year's Gleaner-sponsored KRW, East Japanese hopes even more customers will enjoy their options. Located at 67 Constant Spring Road, they form part of, The Courtyard, a group of different theme restaurant at the Market Place.

Serving New York-style Japanese cuisine, patrons can be gently introduced to the idea of cooked and uncooked sushi.

But other options are available from chicken to cooked salmon. Everything can be enjoyed in the Japanese theme restaurant. Dine at the sushi bar, where beautiful ornamental umbrellas hang above and food is prepared before your eyes. A more intimate option is available at beautifully decked out tables.

The New York-based franchise is owned by Kazumi 'Taka' Utoguchi . Chef Taka sunk his heels into the Jamaican market by working at the Hilton before moving on to his own establishment. He was trained in Tokyo for over a decade and further honed his skills in New York and Miami before hitting our shores.
