Shang Hai Restaurant flaming hot
published: Thursday | October 9, 2008

Gonboa chicken is a spicy dish presented on a plate of flames. One of the many treats you can expect from Shang Hai Restaurant. - Colin Hamilton/freelance photographer

Shang Hai Restaurant wants to make a flaming-hot first appearance on the Gleaner-sponsored Kingston Restaurant Week's (KRW) menu.

Its owner Paul Yao, gave Food a flicker of what to expect during KRW. He served up Gonbao chicken on a plate of flames, and promises that you too can experience this sight when you order this sizzler from their menu.

The relatively new kid on the block, was opened in the Liguanea Post Office Mall three years ago as predominantly a take-out lunch restaurant.

In February of 2007, Yao expanded by opening an elegant dining-in option for evening dining.

And what better way to further introduce Jamaica to their new section than by being part of KRW?

The opening hours of the new section are from 12 noon until 9:30 p.m.

The beautifully styled surroundings offer a great option for family or a romantic date. For the weekends of KRW they will have live piano music, to help enhance the mood.

The restaurant specialises in Mandarin style Chinese food . Some of its specialities include pine nut fish and Gonbao shrimp.
