published: Thursday | October 9, 2008

Ricketts

The life of Janique Ricketts, one of 12 persons who received the Governor General's Achievement Awards has been anchored to community service.

The 29-year-old graduate of the University of the West Indies, Mona, is currently a medical intern at the Spanish Town Hospital.

She has plans of pursuing a residency in family medicine.

Ricketts also holds a first degree in engineering from Howard University in Washington, DC.

It was during her time at Howard that Ricketts became involved in community service.

made commitment to contribute

The mother of a six-month-old son told The Gleaner that after returning home from the United States, she made a commitment to herself to contribute to her country positively.

As a member of the Circle K group at the UWI and the Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Ricketts was engaged in extensive community service.

She participated in numerous projects with a range of organisations, including the National Children's Home, Jamaica Environment Trust, Blood Bank, Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association, SOS Children's Village and the Kiwanis Club of North St Andrew.
