Solitary marlin reaches scales in Port Antonio
published: Thursday | October 9, 2008

PORT ANTONIO:

ONE MARLIN was landed on Tuesday's second day of the 45th Port Antonio Blue Marlin Tourna-ment, while three were tagged and released.

The boat Play Doh accounted for the lone landed marlin, which weighed 110 lb. Although the fish weighed way below the prescribed landing weight of 300 lb, it qualified as it was the first marlin landed by that crew.

The competition took a break yesterday to make way for the 24th staging of the Port Antonio Canoe Tournament, which is a one-day event.

Competition

Canoe Millington won last year's competition with a 500 lb marlin.

The competition will resume today and climaxes tomorrow. One Love is the defending champion, having tagged and released three marlin during a tournament which saw no landed marlin.

The tournament was declared open by the Custos of Portland, Roy Thompson, on Monday, and so far 11 marlin have been tagged and released.

The tournament has attracted 28 boats including three overseas entries.
