NOTE-WORTHY

Riverbed roads

I recently had occasion to visit communities in the Spanish Town area, such as Eltham Park, Fairview, Friendship Meadows, and surrounding environs, and I was shocked out of my wits at the deplorable condition of the roads. In some instances, I was almost sure I was driving in a riverbed; certainly not on what is supposed to be main thoroughfares.

The only reminders I had was the sight of taxis overtaking (as usual). It is all so very sad though, because, as hard-working taxpayers, we all deserve better than what we getting. We are paying various taxes. We deserve better roads.

Picking a leader

The nation must seek a more logical and equitable way of choosing a prime minister. Think of this hair-rising scenario: a wealthy 'bhutto' or ruthless don decides he wants to lead his country. As things now stand, either one can buy out these delegates or intimidate them.

This is not as far-fetched as some may think. Serious efforts must be made to select a prime minister, thus avoiding the wrong groups taking over our country. It is pointless sitting unconcerned and when the apocalypse hit us we put our hands on our head and bawl "How and when did this happen?"

Children's keepers

The cry is that we need to protect our children from those dangerous predators, but are parents doing enough to protect their own children?

Teenagers are in the clubs until the wee hours of the morning and they can be seen hanging out in town centres way past their school hours.

We the parents need to set rules and see to it that our children abide by these rules. Remember, we are our children's keepers.
