A past winner of the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) Gospel Competition, singer Lubert Levy now spreads his powerful ministry alongside his three children, who comprise Levy Heritage.
Levy, who won the competition in 2004 with More Blessings Again, said the victory helped to push his career in the right direction.
"That is the biggest point in my career. I got a free video, recording and island tour. When I got that opportunity I made use of it," said an excited Levy, who placed second in the Tastee Talent Contest semi-finals in 2003.
Big break
In 2004 he also did an album, with original tracks, called Blessings Again. However, his big break did not come until last year when he released his second album, Tek It By Force, which was at number one for 16 weeks on Eagle's Top Ten Gospel Chart.
"Dat is the one weh push mi forward inna di business. People loved that album and said it was better than the first," he told The Gleaner. "I was so encouraged by it, 'cause I realised that all of the struggle and the hard work paid off. More people were accepting my message, music and lifestyle."
Some of the songs that Levy has done are Roll Jordan, Boddaration Deh Ya and a remix of Toots Hibberts' 54-46.
Musical success
The strength of his second album gave him the opportunity to tour Canada, the Cayman Islands and Curacao.
While Levy is reaping musical success, he is not keeping it to himself. He sometimes ministers with his children, Ovando, Oniel and Oshin, who comprise Levy Heritage.
He said his oldest son, Ovando, formed Levy Heritage and he is glad his children wanted to perform with him.
"From dem start perform with me, it mek the ministry much better. From dem start there is a certain chemistry and mi nuh really want it stop. Dem really a do a good job," said the St Catherine resident. "We do it even better, 'cause we have more time fi rehearse and the chemistry is much stronger."
Levy has upcoming tours to Canada, Cayman and the Bahamas.
