EDITORIAL - Weathering the financial storm
There is one school of thought, call it black humour, if you wish, that the Great Depression of the 1930s in the United States did not make much of a difference to African-Americans initially. It simply meant that many whites reached the low standard that the blacks were living at in the first place.

Hugh Shearer's tenure as prime minister of Jamaica saw the country attaining its highest-ever gross domestic product per capita, US$2,300, based on rapid growth in agriculture, mining and tourism. This is one of the credits given to this flamboyant prime minister by economist/author and current Jamaican ambassador to the US, Anthony Johnson. (Neita)

THE EDITOR, Sir: What do we have to say about our justice system in Jamaica? How do we rate this system? Are our people getting good service? Do we really have a justice system in Jamaica?
