NOTE-WORTHY

Speedy bikes

My friend and colleague Dr Ken Magnus walks in Hope Gardens daily. We enter at the back gate and walk as far as the zoo between 6 and 7 o' clock in the morning. I feel it is unreasonable for bicyclists to feel they have the right to ride at what I feel are dangerous speeds in Hope Gardens at any time when the gates are open to the public. What do you think?

Sign of the times?

Driving along East National Heroes Circle last Friday,I came upon a most unusual phenomenon. The front courtyard of the Ministry of Finance and Planning was decked out with large mounted banners advertising Honda motor vehicles. Could this be a sign that the Ministry of Finance is so broke that it is now renting advertising space to supplement its income?

Note to Usain

I am African-American, father, grandfather and master level sprinter. I am as proud as if Usain was my grandson. Note to Usain: Remain true to Jamaica, your family and friends (only the real ones!) You are truly a gift from the Creator, you bless all who are in your company! Pay no attention to the idiots of the world! One love!

Shades of slavery

I was utterly disgusted and disappointed to have read Paul Kokoski's letter in The Gleaner of October 14. In my humble opinion, the fact that Senator Obama supports abortion pales in comparison to the bigoted and racist stand that has been proliferated by the Republican Party at its various rallies. Senator McCain's and Gov Palin's attempts to 'tar and feather' Senator Obama is reminiscent of the days of slavery and the struggles of the civil-rights movement.

At least one Republican supporter has responded with "kill him". Senator McCain's choice of VP, the totally incompetent Sarah Palin, has insulted the intelligence of numerous females worldwide, with or without vote. Perhaps Mr Kokoski should deal with that rather than trying to spread his sick racist views.
