JDF beat Rebels to take first hockey title
published: Wednesday | October 15, 2008

THE JAMAICA Defence Force (JDF) claimed their first hold on the Jamaica Hockey Federation (JHF) men's title following a 6-1 thrashing of Sharpes Rebel at the Mona Hockey Field on Saturday.

The JDF were led to victory through a hat-trick from Jerome Davis and a brace by Marlon Rowe. Evol Powell was the other goalscorer for the soldiers.

Akeem Williams scored the consolation goal for Sharpes Rebels.

The JDF finished atop the standings with 23 points followed by Circus Circle and Sharpes Rebels, on 20 each, and Raiders United, 17.

Rowe, a national representative, was the competition's leading scorer with 29 goals. Giovanni Gordon of Sharpes Rebels and Nicholas Beach of Raiders United finished joint second with eight goals each.

Leon Kerr of Circus Circle was third with seven. By virtue of their victory, JDF have earned the right to represent Jamaica at this year's Caribbean Club Championships, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in December.
