The eighth staging of the Nyammins and Jammins Food Festival, spearheaded annually by the St James 4-H Advisory Council, will take place on Monday, October 20, at the Catherine Hall Entertainment Complex in Montego Bay.Chairman of the St James 4-H Advisory Council, Calvin Brown, described the event as "a staple on Jamaica's events calendar, which offers the best in indigenous food, as well as a wide assortment of other goodies and entertainment fit for the entire family".
He said that this year's event will have the added feature of a 4-H Village, which is aimed at preserving the authenticity of the food festival and promoting the indigenous fare of the country.
"This is a 4-H function and we want to ensure the display of a wide array of products, a variety of dishes for which 4-H has become known, a wide array of craft and other delectable highlights," he stated.
He explained that proceeds from the food festival are used to finance the many training seminars that the St James 4-H Advisory Council implements during the administrative year, as well as for scholarships granted to 4-H club members within the parish.
Chairman of the Jamaica 4-H Clubs, Vindel Kerr, said that events like the Nyammins and Jammins Food Festival are of critical importance to the continued existence of the 4-H movement.
