The 'bird' has just hatched
published: Thursday | October 16, 2008

The Bird's Nest Restaurant and Bar is coming out of its shell as a new face on the restaurant and Gleaner-sponsored Kingston Restaurant Week (KRW) scene.

Proprietor Carol Green concedes that the timing of the restaurant's first flight is impeccable. She says the name comes from the environs and the feathered friends that live in the trees on the premises.

"With the greenery and the birds whistling, it's like an oasis in New Kingston," she says. "You can't believe that you are in the heart of the concrete village." The restaurant is located on Chelsea Avenue.

Authentic Jamaican cuisine

Bird's Nest specialises in seafood, vegetarian and "authentic Jamaican cuisine" she says. That includes curried goat and oxtail to go with the tasty fish, sourced from the waters off St Thomas.

The restaurant can accommodate up to 150 guests and both indoor and outdoor dining is available. The venue can also be rented for parties (office, birthday etc) and other events. Provisions can also be made for private dining.

Green says that brown stewed fish is a favourite among the patrons. No reservations are necessary as Green insists there is enough staff to get the job done. Service is also quick, satisfying the demand of hungry patrons who are either looking for lunch before heading back to work or enjoying a night out.
