Train kids in self-defence
published: Friday | October 17, 2008

THE EDITOR, Sir:

Over the years, violence has been perpetrated against children and recently, this scourge has escalated. This may be due to the fact that the criminals are not being caught and made to pay.

Children are defenceless and make for easy prey, but I believe that this situation can change.

I would like to suggest that training children to defend themselves should be introduced as an extracurricular activity in every school.

Since we cannot always prevent them from being abducted, raped and killed then we should prepare them to deal with their perpetrators. They should also be taught to use these skills only when being attacked by the inhumane creatures that seek to rob them of their virtue and their lives.

Until we find a more effective way to protect our children from these criminals, we need to train them to defend themselves.

I am, etc,
