BLACK RIVER, St Elizabeth:A minute's silence was observed at a special sitting of the Black River Resident Magistrates Court on Wednesday for the late Glen Nanco, deputy clerk of the courts, who served the institution for over 30 years.
Nanco died last Wednesday after a long battle with diabetes.
Attorney-at-law Carlton Campbell described him as a good servant, a faithful and true worker and said he took comfort from the fact that he had lived a good life.
Others said Nanco had a brilliant mind and could remember cases almost word for word, which would serve him well when he began losing his sight.
Resident Magistrate Dionne Meyler-Reid described Nanco as her mentor. She said although she had arrived as a trained lawyer she benefitted from his experience. The judge remembered him as a great cook of curried crab.
Reservoir of knowledge
Attorney-at-law Cecil July said he was a reservoir of knowledge and was not selfish with it. He was not boastful or rude, but a humble individual.
Mayor of Black River Jeremy Palmer remembered Nanco for his commitment to justice. He said as a new lawyer when he got to Black River, he noticed Nancos commitment to work. He was not devoted to winning cases but to seeing justice done.
Nanco will be buried next Saturday.
