Jamal Campbell-Ryce ... starred in both games for Jamaica.
FORGET YAMS, dumplings and bananas, all Jamaicas Reggae Boyz need is Ryce. Well, Jamal Campbell-Ryce that is.
The right wingers sterling performances for the team in both 1-0 victories over Mexico and Honduras makes Ryce The Gleaner Performer of the Week.
Despite not scoring any goals, the flank players stellar performance on the right wing not only kept defenders on that side of the pitch busy, but left both strikers with more room to manoeuvre.
Earning caps
Born on April 6, 1983, in Lambeth, London, to Jamaican parents, Campbell-Ryce made his debut for the national team in September 2003 in a 2-1 loss to Australia.
Since then, the player has gone on to earn 16 caps for Jamaica.
Despite being called up for the first round of the World Cup qualifiers against The Bahamas, the winger did not feature in the plans of then technical director René Simoes.
Exclusion
Ryce was subsequently among players excluded from the squad by Simoes for the first three games of the semi-final round of the World Cup qualifiers.
However, since being reselected by interim coach Whitmore, the skilful Ryce has shown all the attributes of a top-class wide player, which has been invaluable to the national team.
Ryce currently plies his trade for English Championship team Barnsley and featured for the Tykes in a 1-0 loss to Cardiff City in last seasons FA Cup final.
