Q I am a 17-year-old girl from near Negril. My problem is my boyfriend! We have been seeing each other for two months now and I have managed to stay a virgin. He does not like this, and he keeps pressuring me to give in. In fact, he is now saying that if I dont give him my virginity in the next two weeks, he will leave me! Should I agree?
A. This young mans attitude is outrageous. He has the nerve to say to you that he is going to break off the relationship if you dont give him sex! That really shows how little he values you as a person.
If you do give in, you have no guarantee that he will stay with you. He may then decide to have sex with other girls.
Frankly, I do not think that a relationship with him is worth having. Please bear in mind all the medical dangers: pregnancy, sexually transmitted infection and human popilloma virus (HPV) (the virus which causes cancer of the cervix). There are plenty of young guys around. Why not look for a nicer one?
Q. I am a 21-year-old man and my girlfriend has noticed a hard swelling in my right testicle. She told me it could be cancer. But surely that is impossible at my age, isnt it?A. Not at all, Im afraid. Cancer of the testicle is the one type of malignancy which is most common in YOUNG guys rather than in elderly men.
That is why all younger men from about the age of 18 onwards should make a habit of examining their testicles each month, looking for lumps. I hope your lump is non-cancerous, but you MUST have it examined by a doctor immediately.
Q. I recently had a urine test done at the lab because I had cystitis after sex. The results came back with the word STERILE on it. Does this mean I cannot have children?A. No, it does not. The result of the urine test was marked STERILE because there were no germs in it. I assure you, there is no suggestion that you will be unable to have children.
Q. I am a 20-year-old man and I was a virgin until I met my fiancée. To avoid pregnancy, we usually restrict ourselves to what I think is hand play. I am glad to say that I seem to be getting quite good at doing this to her, and she is real pleased by my efforts. However, when she does it to me, the sensation is not as fulfilling as during masturbation. Is there something wrong with me? Am I homosexual?A. No, I am pretty sure that you are not gay! A lot of young men are puzzled by the fact that when a woman gives them a handjob, the sensation may not be as intense as that which they achieve by self-stimulation.
This is perfectly normal. When a guy masturbates, he gradually learns over a period of years what feels best for him, and which pressures are the most effective in making him discharge.
In contrast, when a woman does the same thing for a guy, she does not know exactly what he is feeling. Also, she is most unlikely to have the amount of experience which he has in handling the male organ.
So there is absolutely NO need to fret. As the years go by, you will have plenty of time to show this young lady exactly what you like.
Q. I have a lump in the wall of my vagina. It comes up when I have sex and then it goes down. I went to a doc and she said it was an abscess. She gave me some antibiotic pills, but said I should go to the hospital and have it cut. Is this really necessary?A. Yes. An abscess is a collection of pus. Nearly always, it is necessary to cut into it to get the pus out. Otherwise, it will probably keep coming back. Do as the doctor says.
Q. My girlfriend is making complaints of pain in her left breast. However, there are no lumps in it. I am kindly asking for your expert advice on what the problem might be.A. Well, I get the impression that you are both teenagers. And in the teenage years, cancer of the breast is almost unknown.
So this is almost certainly something benign. A lot of girls get a condition called mild mastitis, which causes them a little pain and tenderness, especially just before their menses. However, to be absolutely sure, tell her to have her breasts checked by a doctor.
Q. I am 19-year-old male virgin who has had many girls ask me if they could perform oral sex on me. I do not know much about sex. I have two questions:1. Could I catch a sexually transmitted infection (STI) this way?
2. If I did it, would I still be a virgin?
A. You are clearly a very popular guy. Yes, you CAN catch an STI through being given oral sex, but the chances are not as high as they are if you have full (vaginal) sex. In answer to your second query, you would still be a virgin.
Q. I am a 21-year-old woman and Im really concerned about avoiding pregnancy. I am in a stable relationship that has lasted two years. What should a condom look like after sex? It seems to me that ours always look slightly squishy at the top. I check to see that it is still intact, and it always is. Is this appearance normal?
A. I am not quite sure what you mean by a squishy appearance, but certainly when a guy has discharged into a condom, it does look a little different and generally more opaque. This is nothing to worry about. Incidentally, do make sure that your partner uses the condom ALL the way through sex not just at the end.
