...are you a married man's magnet?
published: Monday | October 20, 2008

I am an unapologetic addict of The Gleaner. I read the publication daily and have always found your articles interesting and thought provoking .

As with most other writers on the topic of sex and relationships, there is a general bias toward painting the man as either the villain or the underdog or conversely the woman as the virtuous one. Do you realise that there are women out there who contribute to some of men's less than 'acceptable' behaviour?

I am a divorcé who is slowly being turned off by the women I meet, as they seem to see a man as a meal ticket; something to be exploited .

How does one explain the situation where one meets a woman, invites her out for dinner or a drink and before the first date is over, one is being regaled with tales of hardship and suffering, as there are unpaid bills, rent, school fees, car payments and utilities, just to name a few.

This sort of behaviour begs the question whether it's socialisation, learned behaviour, need or just plain being parasitic? It should be noted that there are good men out there and bad ones, but if one were to believe what is written on the subject, one would conclude that we are all villains.

Grateful if you would, in your unique and informed way, let me have your comments on my musings.

It is expected that you will change the identification if you see it fit to comment on this in a subsequent column or article.
