People's National Party (PNP) President Portia Simpson Miller has made yet another step in an effort to cement her leadership of the party with yesterday's election, to the post of deputy chairman, of Member of Parliament for Western St Andrew, Anthony Hylton.

Hylton, a strong Simpson Miller supporter during her presidential campaign against challenger Dr Peter Phillips last month, was elected unopposed to the post by the National Executive's Council at a meeting in Tower Isle, St Mary.

Party's top brass

He replaces member of parliament and key Phillips supporter, Maxine Henry-Wilson.

Hylton joins the ranks of well-known Team PNP allies to have grasped key positions in the party's top brass since Simpson Miller's victory.

Three of the four vice-presidents of the party are Simpson Miller supporters, as well as five of the six regional chairpersons.

Eleven NEC members were also elected to sit on the party's executive committee yesterday, many of them also Simpson Miller supporters. They include MP for South St Andrew and Spokesperson on Finance, Dr Omar Davies, and Ian Hayles. Dr Wykeham McNeill, a Phillips supporter, was also elected.

Hylton is to lead a team that will iron out the details of the party's so-called progressive agenda.
