Olympic, Barbican confident
published: Tuesday | October 21, 2008

Robert Bailey, Gleaner Writer

Olympic Gardens will host Barbican in today's feature game of the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Jackie Bell knockout competition at Cling Cling Oval, starting at 3 p.m.

In the day's other games, Police National entertain Mountain View at Duhaney Park and in the clash of the Syd Bartlett teams, Maxfield Park tackle Island Special Constabulary Force at Maverley.

"I think we have a very good chance of winning this game," said Courtney Leakey, president of Barbican, which was demoted from the Super League competition last season.

Preparations going well

We defeated them in our last match we played against them in the Super League competition last season and we are confident we can do it again," Leakey added.

Leakey added that the team's preparations have been going fairly well and the players are ready.

"The team looks very sharp in training and we have a new coach and we are expecting great things from him this season," Leakey noted.

Coach confident

Meanwhile, Michael Peart, the coach of Olympic Gardens which play in the Major League competition, also expressed a lot of confidence.

"We are very optimistic of our team's chances," he said.

"We don't know much about the Barbican team and so we will just have to put our strongest 11 out there."

Peart added: "We weren't at full strength when they beat us last season. However, we now have a full squad and the players are a lot better prepared this season."

Olympic Gardens will be depending heavily on the likes of striker Damion Williams and midfield stalwart Fabian Francis.
