True ambassadors

Dears, for those of y'all who missed the amazing Usain Bolt's appearance on Bryant Gumble's Real Sports, on HBO, luvs, y'all missed a fabulous treat!
My dears, to say Usain Bolt was equal to the task would be to do him and his cool, calm and collected manner a total disservice. Bolt displayed maturity, lots of style and the flair that has earned him fans worldwide, while earning him the ire of the misguided Jacques Rogge of the IOC.
Pumpkins, talk about ambassadorial! Well my dears, young Bolt was all that and then some. And, not just in his capacity as a representative of Jamaica but, more important, as an athlete representing a sport that has come under more scrutiny in more recent times, due in part to the doping of some superstars of the sport.
Professional
We are talking true and gritty professionalism here, in that at no time did he parochialise himself or trivialise his achievements by seeking to personalise the animus directed at him by others who are bitter, or even the contemptible utterances of the IOC president. Not only did the sprint superstar show his mettle, he outdistanced his character from the lesser mortals that would seek to sully his, and in doing this, shone even brighter.
And speaking of the great Olympian Bolt, his colleague, the ever so charming Melaine Walker, popped into the always hot and buzzing Hedonism III two Saturdays ago to join a panel of international personalities who were on hand to judge the seventh staging of the annual Mr Caribbean International contest. And the near petite Olympian won them all over!
Dovecakes, you bet your Bloody Marys she did, and then some!
Fab show
The contest is promoted annually under the auspices of the Mr Caribbean International organisation, a Canada-based outfit founded by chief executive officer Dave Smith. Caribbean nationals from the diaspora are invited to compete for cash and prizes each year, as well as modelling assignments and contracts in a fab show hosted at Hedonism III. There are a number of party fans and talent scouts in attendance for the annual extravaganza.
Chen
This year the event was hosted on October 11 weekend, and honeychiles, we might be in the midst of the hurricane season but we are talking a red-hot line-up of some even hotter contestants, 10 in all, eager to strut their stuff and do battle for the title. The winner has to be a positive role model and goodwill ambassador, internationally, for men of the Caribbean.
Well my daahlings, the hot boys of The Bahamas, Barbados, Canada, Jamaica, Martinique and the United States of America were out in full battle regalia - buffed-bodies showcasing bulging biceps, wash-board six-packs and thighs worked to perfection as they strutted their manly material before a most enthusiastic audience. The judges had their hands and eyes full as they tried to find a winner.
When it was all over, the Jamaican contestant, Marlon Birbridge, proved not only the crowd's favourite but also the judges choice.
So the Olympic 400-metres hurdle champion, chaperoned by her mom, Jennifer Wilson, joined the victor and the vanquished and hordes of guests in the resort's Hurricane Disco for the celebratory bash. It all made for one fabulous spectacle!
A good thing
In between the rush for autographs and photo ops with the gold medallist; the newly crowned Mr Caribbean International, flowing libations and some hot contemporary dance tunes, it all proved one fabulous mess of a good thing.
Then my dears, those of you in the know are aware that Hedonism Resort's slogan is 'Be Wicked for a Week'. Well my dears, when it comes to October a week is not enough!
How could it be with the Merritone Heroes Weekend celebration following on the heels of the Mr Caribbean International; and then Halloween celebrations coming on the 31st of the month.
Come next weekend, it will be all about Hedonism III and its annual Hedoween celebrations near Runaway Bay, as the party people of the world will arrive to celebrate it, and dearhearts, how!
Hedoween celebration
The fab have been queuing for bookings. Among those jetting in from Long Island, New York, will be the absolutely charming Carla Jackson Buchannan, who celebrates her birthday on the 31st and plans to make it a Hedoween celebration.
And speaking of birthdays my dears, the age of Libra has come to a close and it's now the age of the Scorpion, and parties there are aplenty.
To begin with, fab socialite Jennifer Lim opened the season on Thursday night with an intimate do, but more anon. On Sunday, businessman Dr Bobby Chen will celebrate his special day.
The absolutely talented and oh-so-gifted soprano and international classical performing star and beauty, Claire Salomon, celebrates her birthday on the 28th at home in Chicago, with the buzz being she is reportedly mulling a late November Jamaican performance.
And a very special birthday wish to Carla Jackson-Buchannan, come next Friday. Champagne wishes and Beluga treats!
