Requiem for Judaeo-Christian values
published: Tuesday | October 28, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

Jamaica, it seems, is about to join with the Europeans and so-called 'progressive' countries in repudiating the Judaeo-Christian values that informed our laws. If that were not bad enough, the country is probably going to do so with the support from the Church.

The Rev Herro Blair, for example, can no longer support the death penalty because of a story he heard from Father Richard Ho Lung about the hanging of a man who said he was innocent.

Were he to have his way, guilty murderers will no longer receive what is just according to the Bible from which Mr Blair preaches.

On the other hand, several prominent churches are in favour of killing innocent unborn children because of some right that a woman supposedly has to do so or to prevent the poor child from suffering.

So looking ahead, this country will probably soon abolish the death penalty for guilty murderers and give women and their trained doctors the right to kill innocent children ... and all with the support of the Church!

Sinking feeling

As a Christian myself, I am left with a sinking feeling that the spirit-given foreboding felt by the Apostle Paul and stated in 1Tim.4:1-2 is well and truly upon us.

I pray for church leaders daily that they would provide moral leadership to those who seek it; that they would stop allowing them-selves to be co-opted into politically correct postures which contradict the proper under-standing of the Bible from which they pontificate Sunday after Sunday.

God help us if they don't!

I am, etc.,
