Let the salvaging job proceed
published: Tuesday | October 28, 2008

The Editor, Sir:

The latest posturing of the leader of the opposition and former minister of finance has become monotonous. They, along with the rest of the Opposition, are trying to convince the Jamaican people that, in the little over one year of governance by the Jamaica Labour Party, the country has become worse off.

Having mismanaged this country for almost 20 years, the people decided that they had had enough and made that known. Jamaicans have come out of the box, in terms of politics, and are now looking at the broader picture. We all have to work for the betterment of our country. "Ask not what the country can do for us, but what we can do for OUR country."

When one looks at what is happening in the United States, what with a steady loss of jobs, closure of businesses and home foreclosures in a global crisis, are we in any way worse off than they?

True profit

I am appealing to the PNP to allow the Government try and salvage what is left of Jamaica for the future. Anyone operating a business will tell you that it does not happen overnight. It sometimes take two to three years before one can realise a true profit. It is no different in the running of a country, I believe.

I know your job is to oppose. Do that without fear, but please stop feeding the people the daily doses of diatribe that is being served. You had your chance, and had you done a good job, we would not be in the mess we are in today. Please, let the Government do what it is placed there to do, work to put back this country on an even keel.

I am, etc.,
