The Editor, Sir: On the weekend, Karl Samuda, the minister of industry, investment and commerce, expressed in the local news media his dissatisfaction that now that the prices of certain commodities are falling after recent sharp increases the supermarkets are reluctant to pass on the savings to consumers.
Now, as conscious consumers, we must respond. What is the Consumers Affairs Commission doing? What are their functions?
If they are not being proactive in the interest of us, the consumers, then we should take action in our own interest.
Find alternatives
My slogan in response is 'if you don't need it, don't eat it'. If the supermarkets are reluctant to reduce the prices of certain products, then we should boycott those items. Find suitable alternatives.
We should pass on the word to our families, neighbours and friends. We cannot allow greedy merchants to decide our fate.
Two of the mentioned products are corned beef and sardines, and I suppose there many others. We should find out what these products are, share the information and follow suit. We must do our part.
I am, etc.,
