Campbell-Brown
Veronica Campbell-Brown, the only Jamaican athlete to retain an Olympic title, was on National Heroes Day honoured by GraceKennedy Ltd for her achievements.
Campbell-Brown won the 200 metres gold medal at the Olympics in Beijing, China. She had accomplished the same feat at the Athens Games four years ago.
She was the guest of honour at a luncheon hosted by GraceKennedy Limited at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in New Kingston last week Monday.
Douglas Orane, chairman and chief executive officer of GraceKennedy, said the relationship between the company and the Olympian began eight years ago.
Orane said the multinational stands proud of the Olympian and saw it fitting to honour the 'Golden Queen'.
Addressing the gathering, Olivia Grange, minister of sports, defended the Government's decision to award the Beijing Olympians national honours.
"In my view enough was not done to capitalise on our people's achievements over the years," said Grange.
Campbell-Brown was awarded the Order of Distinction (Commander class).
The 26-year-old's Olympic achievements include five medals - three gold, a silver and a bronze.
Recently, she graduated from the University of Arkansas in the United States with a bachelor's degree in marketing.
