A tractor clears debris along the Bog Walk gorge in St Catherine yesterday after it was blocked during heavy rains on Thursday.
MORE RAINS are expected today and a flash-flood warning remains in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas as a frontal system, which has been producing adverse weather conditions, remains in the vicinity of the island.
Yesterday, the Meteorological Office said a surface trough continued to produce a broad area of showers and thunderstorms over the central and western Caribbean, including Jamaica.
A flash-flood warning means that flooding has been reported or will occur shortly.
Fishers and other marine interests are advised to exercise caution as gusty winds and choppy seas may be encountered in the vicinity of showers and thunderstorms over the north and south coasts.
According to the National Works Agency (NWA), the Bog Walk gorge in St Catherine will remain closed until today.
Roadway damaged
The chief executive officer of the NWA, Milton Hodelin, said the flood waters have receded in the gorge, but a section of the roadway has been damaged.
Four other roadways remain impassable as a result of the persistent rainfall.
