published: Saturday | November 1, 2008

Alton Ellis

THE FUNERAL for Alton Ellis, the singer regarded as Jamaica's greatest proponent of rocksteady music, will take place at the St Andrew Scots Kirk United Church, 43A Duke Street, downtown Kingston.

The service, scheduled for Monday, November 3, 2008 will begin at 11 a.m. His body will be interred in the Dovecot Memorial Park, St Catherine.

In her tribute, Olivia Grange, minister of information, culture, youth and sports, described Alton Ellis as a true pioneer whose creativity and inventiveness provided music to reflect on and music for dancing pleasure.

Ellis died on October 10 in England.
