August Town, Bull Bay in top contest
published: Saturday | November 1, 2008

Kwesi Mugisa, Staff Reporter

Recently demoted top flight affiliates, August Town, will hope to continue a positive start to their season when they target fellow Super League team Bull Bay in the third round of the Western Union KSAFA Jackie Bell KO competition at the UWI Bowl at 3 p.m. today.

August Town, who have set their sights on a return to the Premier League, looked in good early season form as they turned back Santos 3-1 in their opening game.

Having retained players from the Premier League, August Town manager, Marlon Small, hopes for more of the same.

Preparation

"We are looking to sharpen up for the season, so it is good to be taking part in this competition at this stage of our preparation, we are looking forward to today's game," he said.

"Against Bull Bay, I think we normally have a close game. "We don't really mind having a lot of tough games so early, provided you keep winning, that's more good teams out of the way. If you lose, it gives you an expectation of what the season will be like," he said.

Bull Bay, who finished runners-up in last season's competition, are also confident heading into the match-up.

First-round encounter

"Having looked at the players in training, they are focused. We are looking forward to the game and we are looking to win it," said Howard Wright, assistant coach at Bull Bay.

"We don't worry about the teams we have to play, whether they be from the Super or Major League, we prefer to focus on ourselves," he said.

Bull Bay got the better of Mona in their first-round encounter.

In the day's other games, Port Royal will take on Rae Town at Rae Town, whereas Duhaney Park will look to emulate last year's excellent run in the competition when they tackle Rockfort at home. Liguanea United face Maxfield Park at Jamaica College.
