Nerissa Petrie and Leighton Small met while they were both students at St Catherine High School. In 2000 Nerissa returned to England.

A few years later, while at her cousin's birthday party in London, she saw Leighton who was now studying there. They kept in touch and started dating three years later.

On October 18, they got married at the Registrar General's Department. A very small intimate reception followed at the Courtleigh Hotel in New Kingston. It was attended by close family members and their children: Amarie, Malik and Jameela.
