Susie's Bakery, more than delectable desserts
published: Thursday | November 6, 2008

KRW - Susie's Bakery, Chilli Lychee Shrimp. - Contributed

Susie's Bakery and Coffee Bar is known for its delectable desserts. However, it will be offering more than just sweet treats. During The Gleaner sponsored Kingston Restaurant Week (KRW) Susie's will officially launch its restaurant bar and grill on the terrace.

This year Susie's is in a new category, having upgraded from a bakery and coffee bar to a restaurant. Susie Hanna, owner of the facility, said now they will be serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily. And Sunday brunch offers an all-you-can-eat buffet.

The terrace is open nightly and there is special entertainment package. "Mondays is Mojito night, Wednesday has a live band on the terrace. From Thursday to Saturday nights, there is happy hour and on weekends, the appetiser bar is open until 2:a.m.," said Hanna.

She said that if it is someone's birthday and there is a party of 30 or more persons, they get a free cake. But if it's a get-together of friends , they get free appetisers.

The restaurant has a sports bar vibe, so dressing is casual. Hanna notes that she is trying to develop a whole new meeting place that not only caters to executives but to everyone.

Restaurant capacity

Currently the restaurant can seat 75 people but for KRW they will be bringing in extra chairs. Popular meals on the menu include hot sandwiches, sliders, and hot and spicy shrimp dishes. "We do everything in-house and try to make our dishes unique and different."

Last year KRW was good and Susie's had full bookings; she expects the same this year. In fact, people have been wanting to make reservations from as far back as February. And, Susie's has continued serving from last year's KRW menu up until a month ago. The focus is on good food, ample portions with quality service.
