Big fields for Superday 30
published: Friday | November 7, 2008

Jamaica's biggest raceday - Superday - marks it 30th anniversary at Caymanas Park tomorrow with the meet's showpiece event, the $5 million CTL Superstakes over 2000 metres, attracting 10 starters.

In addition to the Superstakes which offers an increased purse of $5 million, the massive 13-race programme, scheduled to start as early as 11:15 a.m., features the $2.25 million CTL Caribbean Sprint Championship to be contested by a star-studded field of 16, the $1.7 million CTL Imported Mile featuring a notable clash between top weight CHADMAN and the talented American filly GOOD CITIZEN, as well as the million-dollar CTL Juvenile Sprint over 1300 metres (formerly 2-y-o Breeders' Stakes over 1400m) to be contested by 10 youngsters.

With large and competitive fields in the offing, the card has attracted 160 starters - a record for Superstakes day and the highest number for any raceday so far this year.

Ten have been declared for the CTL Superstakes, the field including last year's winner MAJOR MAYER and this year's Triple Crown winner ALSAFRA, the leading contenders, both coming from post positions three and four, respectively.

The card facilitates two Super-6s, while the Pick-9 will embrace races five to 13.
