Organisers of the Petcom/ MegaMart Portmore Metropolitan Cricket League will be hoping for better weather tomorrow, the day set aside for the replay of the league's final between Portsmouth and Colours International at Ken's Wildflower ground, starting at 11 a.m.
The final was originally scheduled for last week but persistent rain forced the postponement.
Out-of-favour West Indies players Wavell Hinds and David Bernard Jr will turn out for Portsmouth in tomorrow's game.
Hinds and Bernard will carry the bulk of the workload in both departments, but can expect solid support from Akeem Dyer and Roland Henry.
Kemar Marshall and Richard Johnson, who scored half centuries in the semi-finals, along with David Morgan, are the form players for Colours International.
The two teams will be competing for the Tony Becca Cup and cash prizes.
Colours International, in their semi-final, beat arch-rivals Ken's Wildflower by 48 runs, while Portsmouth defeated MegaMart Development Squad by six wickets.
Walsh hits hat-trick for Goshen
Romaine Walsh, Goshen's striker, scored a hat-trick as his team beat Ramble 4-1 in action from the James Bond Beach (JBB)-sponsored primary schools championships on Wednesday.
In the match played at James Bond Beach in Oracabessa, St Mary, Walsh, a parish representative, scored in the 11th, 24th and 42nd minutes.
Jevaughn Irons supported Walsh with his strike in the 50th minute. Ramble's goal was created from a lapse in defence by Goshen's centre half who tried to make a hasty clearance but only succeeded in getting the ball to rebound off his teammate and into the back of the net for an own goal.
Earlier, Oracabessa turned in another superb performance, spanking Albion Mountain, who have now bowed out of contention for a play-off spot, 3-0.
Free Hill were outclassed by a more organised Donnington, who won 5-1.
The league's leading marksman, Jannoy Nelson, notched another hat-trick for the season, netting in the 23rd, 44th and 49th minutes for the winning Donnington team.
On the netball court, similar treatment was handed out to the Ramble girls.
Ramble were totally outplayed and surrendered 15-2 to Goshen. Haiesha Lawrence scored 10 goals from 18 attempts for the winners.
JHF football, basketball tourneys
On January 3, 2009, the fourth annual Jonathon Hibbert Foundation (JHF) Cup competition will take place at Munro College in St Elizabeth.
The tournament was organised to give young athletes the chance to display their skills in front of coaches from various American universities.
Initially, the foundation started a football tournament but requests from the US coaches led the organisers to add a basketball tournament.
In the last three years, the competition has attracted more than 400 young players, aged 16-22, and 35 scholarships totalling US$20.5 million have been offered.
The student athletes must be capable of scoring 900 and above on their SATs.
MultiCare volleyball starts on Wednesday
About 800 students are expected to participate in the annual MultiCare Inter-schools Sports competitions, which began on Wednesday at Breezy Castle, downtown Kingston.
Action in volleyball took place on Wednesday and Thursday and will be followed by the netball competition, slated to run on November 18 and 19.
Students in all the participating MultiCare-assisted schools have been training for both competitions over the last few weeks and last year's winners of the respective age group volleyball segments will be pressing to retain their titles.
The defending champions in netball are Harbour View Primary School in the 10-12 age group, and Dunoon Technical High in the 13-15 and 16-18 groupings.
The 10-12 age groups will compete on the first day of each competition with the 13-15 and 16-18 age groups competing on the second and final day.
The competitions are open to boys and girls from the 31 MultiCare-assisted schools.
Under Thirteen, Blazers, Angels top opponents
Blazers A, Angels A and Under Thirteen recently scored impressive victories to take control of their respective zones in the St James Goodwill netball competition.
In the games played at Montego Bay Cricket Club, Angels A moved to the top of Zone B with a crushing 42-20 win over early-zone leaders Destiny. Nicole Fletcher scored 36 goals for Angels A, which moved them to nine points from three games ahead of Destiny (six).
Blazers A dismissed Sting A 31-22, thanks to national representative Shadian Hemmings, who netted 23 goals.
With the win, Blazers A moved to nine points, three more than Starlight.
In another top-of-the-table clash, Under Thirteen defeated Queens 22-16 to take over sole leadership of Zone C with nine points.
In other games during the week, Under Thirteen crushed Juveniles B 27-5, Blazers C thrashed Aces 18-2, Starlight dispatched Pacers 32-25 and Starlight Eagles edged Pacers B 23-22.
CTL Portmore domino commences
Defending champions Caribbean Classic drubbed Seamaster 300-229 in an away match in Old Harbour last Sunday as the CTL Portmore/St Catherine domino tournament got under way.
In other first-round games, New Look whipped home team Garveymeade 300-204, ISCF stopped Old Harbour Bay 300-281, Right Stuff beat newcomers Colours International Sports Club 300-276, while Masterpiece clipped Westchester 300-295 in a countdown.
Continuing, Fort International drubbed High Roller 300-237, Eagle View beat Ken's Wildflower 300-286, Ackee Pod stopped Marliemount 300-278, Old Harbour United beat Correctional Services 300-260, Hurricane clipped Pros and Cons 300-294 and Eradication beat Lime Tree 300-281.
The competition continues tomorrow with 11 matches starting at 11:30 a.m.
