Simmons hits ton

GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

Out-of-favour West Indies batsman, Lendl Simmons, stroked a masterful, undefeated century to guide Trinidad and Tobago to an easy nine-wicket win over the Leeward Islands yesterday at Bourda.

Set a victory target of 220 after dismissing the opposition for 219 in 42.5 overs of the stipulated 43 overs, T&T reached 221 for one with Simmons stroking an unbeaten 112 from 102 balls.

Scores: Leewards 219 off 42.5 overs (Omari Banks 56, Wilden Cornwall 41, Kieran Powell 30, Runako Morton 24, Austin Richards 21; Kieron Pollard 3-47, Samuel Badree 2-25, Rayad Emrit 2-28, Ravi Rampaul 2-50); T&T 221 for one off 32.5 overs (Lendl Simmons 112 not out, Adrian Barath 72, Daren Ganga 25 not out).

At the Enmore Community Centre: Combined Campuses and Colleges beat the Windward Islands by 70 runs, in their second round WICB Cup one-day match yesterday.

Scores: CCC 224 for six off 50 overs (Romel Currency 70, Floyd Reifer 62, Simon Jackson 34; Liam Sebastien 3-53, Nelon Pascal 2-44); Windwards 154 all out off 46.2 overs (Devon Smith 42, Lyndon James 20; Kavesh Kantasingh 3-27, Anderson Sealy 3-30, Ramnarine Chattergoon 2-19).

At the Guyana National Stadium: Barbados completed a 110-run victory under the Duckworth-Lewis Method, in their second round match of the WICB Cup One-day competition against the United States yesterday. The United States were set a revised target of 259 from 42 overs, after a rain delay during their innings.

Scores: Barbados 286 for eight off 50 overs (Ryan Hinds 84, Dale Richards 63, Dwayne Smith 52; Orlando Baker 4-48); United States 149 for nine from 42 overs (Aditya Thyagarajan 42, Barrington Bartley 26, Robert Creffer 22; Nikolai Charles 4-39, Tino Best 3-27).
