POLICE ARE refusing to say why they did not put an end to the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) 65th annual conference on Sunday following a fatal shooting at the event.

"I will not comment on that. All that I will say is that it will form a part of the investigation," Karl Angell, director of communication in the Jamaica Constabulary Force, told The Gleaner yesterday.

One man was shot and killed and two others injured during the incident which took place at the National Arena.

The dead man has been identified as David Lindsay, 35, of Lizard Town, west Kingston.

Police also arrested one man and recovered a firearm.

Not yielding to hooligans

The Bureau of Special Investigations is investigating the incident.

"A preliminary report has reached the desk of the commissioner of police," Angell said.

JLP General Secretary Karl Samuda told The Gleaner on Sunday night that the party, in not calling off the conference, was resolute that it "will not yield to the hooligan elements".

The JLP has since said itwill be reviewing all security arrangements for future conferences.
